Popping It

Right after college I worked two really awesome seasonal jobs, but there was about three months of down time between them so I had to start working at a temp agency. Most of the assignments were fine, except one time they sent me out to this company that makes food supplements. I guess they had a huge batch that came out with the wrong dosage so they needed somebody to pop the pills out of those plastic containers with the foil on the back. I only spent two days doing this and it was absolutely miserable. The worst part of the whole thing is that the pills were sensitive to light, so I had to do this MVWJ in the dark.

As a temp/contract worker, I don’t really care. A two day assignment where you get to laugh about working in the dark (sneak some naps!) and pop pills out of wrappers to make some extra cash sounds pretty awesome. You don’t hear me complaining about being a pretty face that showed jewelry to bored rich people under the guide of a Wanna-Be-New-Age-Yuppie (He was sadden to find out that my brown hairband on my wrist held no other significance than holding my hair up while his tweaking female coworker would calm herself with an assortment of pills).

Why? Because those temp jobs leave you with a smile because you know it’s not a position you have to give two craps about. I am now in love with my current contract position .

The OP sounds like a big whiner who doesn’t realize that temping is all about working those crazy, laughable jobs. The best part is you can turn the job down in the middle of the day and in most states STILL gain unemployment while looking for the next temp position. I suggest doing your research for anyone looking to do temp/contract work.

I’m the OP in this story and I think you mistook my tone. I wasn’t trying to complain about this job so much as do exactly as you said and get a laugh out it (and hopefully get a few others to laugh as well). I actually enjoyed most of the assignments I got, but it doesn’t make an interesting story to tell about the time I answered phones at a bank while somebody was on vacation. At very worst I got two days of cramped hands and boredom for a pay check and a good story.

Sorry Meshell but this job sounds like a nightmare to me – those blister packs can be HELL to open! If I had to open like 400 of them I might cry. What a chore!

You’d think they’d have a machine to do that or something by now.

Meshell…she told her story in exactly the same light as you told your story. So either both of you are big complainers…or your just swapping stories.

And OP I know how you feel. When I was in college I once worked on a price team for a large department store. I was the person who psychically wrote the clearance price on the tag. It was in the morning when only the auxiliary lights were on on and it was cold. One day I went home and realized that I had just spent 4 hours cross-legged on a store room floor marking down 3000 pairs of underwear. I quit after that.

Sika, the OP didn’t give enough details to chuckle about, rather just complained about working a crappy temp job (most temp jobs ARE crappy). There is a vast difference between telling a story in a humorous light and complaining. And on second reflection, I feel the OP was trying to get the gist in while meeting the word count. I didn’t get the gist except that she complained about her temp job. Her comment after mine put it into a different light.

So naaaah, the OP just didn’t write her story that well. And she never professed that writing was her long time ambition, so that’s not an unheard of thing on the intarwebs. But we were swapping stories :D And that temp job was complete crap. :(

Meshell – It was a fine story and was similar to your own. Go read a book or something – somewhere else.

Don’t you all know? Meshell is the resident forum troll. At least from what I can tell.

Get back under your bridge! *whipcrack*
